Research group in Marseille
We are a research group based in Marseille, France, close to the sea and its beautiful Calanques. Our group is based at the Laboratoire de Chimie Bactérienne, a joint research unit supported both by CNRS and Aix-Marseille Université. We are also a part of and funded by the Turing Center for Living Systems.
We are a group of theoretical biologists with various backgrounds, ranging from biochemistry to applied mathematics. Our main activity is the mathematical modeling of microbial dynamics, especially when microbes form interacting communities called microbiomes. We have projects that progress in close association with data collection, through experimental collaborations, and others, more conceptual, that explore the fundamental assumptions of evolution in constrained fitness landscapes. Our common languages are those of theoretical ecology and evolution, as well as dynamical systems. Feel free to explore this website to learn more about us!
In this preprint, we use mathematical models to study how the intermittent feeding of microbes may modify the composition of the gut microbiome, and in particular, the average Shanon diversity. We show that there almost always exists a set of feeding parameters (feeding interval and food microbial content) that maximizes diversity, and fully characterize it.
There is no open position at the moment. However, motivated candidates in any career stage are always welcome to contact us to discuss about collaborations possibilities and support for their own funding acquisition.
We are an interdisciplinary team and people working here have backgrounds ranging from theoretical physics to biochemistry. The combination of different skillsets is crucial for the success of our work. Motivation to work in an interdisciplinary environment is
